Welcome back stinkers! I am back yet again, but with something new. For the past month and a half, I’ve had a focus on movies, and TV. Two very special things in my life. However, there’s a third factor that I want to introduce, being video games. And what’s better to start talking about games, with the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 First Look trailer.

Switch 2 First Look V.S. Leaks

Just the other day, Nintendo released a first look teaser at the Switch’s predecessor. It definitely feels like Nintendo was pressured into doing this because of all of the Switch 2 leaks. And they were pretty spot on. So, if you’re wondering why so many people found it to be underwhelming, the leaks pretty much gave it away.

Leaks aside, the trailer did an amazing job of showing off the console, without showing much. It’s a great way to start a casual marketing ramp up, going all the way to April. I mean I hope we get tiny bits and pieces as we wait for a couple months for that Nintendo Switch 2 direct. I think how they could build some more of that hype, is third party developers to announce their games for the Switch 2. Which I will speculate about in today’s video.

In with the New Out with the Old

We start the trailer with the original Switch, starting the new era with the old. The screen not only enlarges, but the joy cons as well. This trailer was shot and put together like an Apple/Iphone trailer. And for a trailer like this, Nintendo really did do everything right when it comes to their first reveal of the console.

New Joy Cons

Now I absolutely love the revamped Joy cons. They don’t only slide into place anymore, but they have a slight focus on the control stick. You can forget about those cheap slides the Switch had, cause it’s all magnetic now! That’s not only going to change the functionality of the Switch controllers, but it’s also going to change Nintendo’s marketing. During the Switch 1 era, we all knew that iconic sliding logo that they’d open their trailers with. Now it will be that magnetic click that the new console has.

New Kick Stand

I also wanted to point out the new kick stand. It’s definitely an improvement to the original Switch, but I don’t think it’s better than the Switch oled. It’s the same length as the console, but it’s in a U shape. As long as it doesn’t break off, I’m fine. The kickstand on the back of my Switch has been missing for years.

Fixed Joy Sticks?

Now something that I don’t see a lot of people talking about is the fact that they focus on that joystick for a second. I believe that might be them indicating that they finally fixed its stick drift issue! Arguably the biggest flaw of the original Switch! Just take my money Nintendo! Now another interesting new function is that there’s an attachment that turns the joy con into a mouse. I don’t really know what this would be used for. The only thing I could really think of is that maybe the Switch 2 has a web browser. Let me know what you think it is in the comments.

Mario Kart!

Now let’s get into the good stuff! Mario Kart baby! And that isn’t a Mario Kart we’ve seen before. I actually love the updated looks of these characters. I know it’s not much. 2023’s Super Mario Bros. Wonder was the first game to shepherd these new designs. Characters like Mario, Luigi, and Bowser fit more of their Mario Wonder designs. In fact I think this could be titled something like Mario Kart Wonder, because instead of the item blocks, it looks like they’re replaced with Wonder seeds. I think this is a great way to continue the new generation of Mario, having that new and distinct style be a new connective thread between games.

Donkey Kong

Donkey Kong also has an updated look that matches his design from the Mario Movie. I would consider it to be more so his “Wonder” design. Now for the longest time there has been leaks and rumors of there being a new Donkey Kong game. More specifically a 3D game. I don’t think this redesign is just for Mario Kart. I believe that this could match with a Donkey Kong release that launches with the new console. I also wanted to point out the fact that there are now 24 starting points! Yes! You can now play with double the amount of people!

New Dock and Dates

We then end the trailer off with a look at the new dock, and a date for the next Nintendo Direct. April 2nd can’t come any sooner. If you’re in the New York, LA, or Dallas area, you could also register for the Nintendo Switch 2 experience, where you can try out the new console early in the month of April.

New Switch 2 Third Party Titles

Now that the trailer is out of the way, I wanted to take a minute to speculate about the games this console could launch with. We already know that Metroid Prime 4 comes out this year, as well as a new Mario Kart game teased in the trailer. We even have a new Pokemon game coming. I also mentioned that I think we’ll finally see a new Donkey Kong game based off of the redesign. I also forgot to mention that the Switch 2 will have backwards compatibility. So, you should be able to play all of the Switch’s catalog. Most of it. I also think we’ll see things like Call of Duty, and Halo on the console. We already know Halo is coming to Nintendo and PlayStation anyways.

Switch 2 Launch Titles

Now we need some more 1st party titles to fill this year out with. We have Metroid Prime 4, a new Mario Kart, Pokemon: Legends Z-A, and maybe a new Donkey Kong game. Now what Nintendo likes to focus on are family games. Now I think an easy thing Nintendo could do is launch with a remake/remaster. If Nintendo had to have one remake, I think they would finally deliver a Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker remake. If anything, I think they’ll launch with a new Zelda remake or remaster.

A New Original Game

Now for one more game I think Nintendo could launch with. I think they could launch with a new and original game. Something like an Arms. Or worst-case scenario it’s a 1-2 Switch level game. But whatever it is, I think Nintendo will come out of the gate with a new IP. So, to recap 6 games I think Nintendo will launch with this year, Metroid Prime 4, Mario Kart 9, Pokemon: Legends Z-A, a new Donkey Kong, a Wind Waker remake/remaster, and a new Nintendo IP.
