Thunderbolts* Big Game Trailer Review

Wow… What a trailer. This was already one of my most anticipated movies of the year, and now it might be the most anticipated Marvel movie I’ve had in a while. I’m really regretting not putting Thunderbolts* in my #2 spot in my most anticipated video, which you should go check out by the way. Seriously though, that trailer was FANTASTIC!
This trailer showcases the characters beautifully, the dynamic between them looks amazing, the action looks great, and it looks like an emotional story. Just about every time I rewatch this trailer, I start to get a little welled up. Superman is my most anticipated movie of the year, and the trailer was fantastic! However, this Thunderbolts* trailer might be just as good, maybe even better.
I said how emotional this trailer got, and that all really stems from Red Guardian. It’s because of that father/daughter dynamic that Yelena and Red Guardian are two of my favorite characters in the MCU. Of course, Bucky looks great, and U.S. Agent looks better than ever. They could not have done a better job on this trailer! I’m not this excited for Captain America, I’m not this excited for Fantastic Four, I’m not this excited for Daredevil, Thunderbolts* can’t come any sooner!
The Avengers Are Not Coming

Moving on to my breakdown, we open in what seems to be some sort of court hearing. And the very first thing we hear from this trailer is Val, saying “The Avengers are not coming”. And then she asks who will keep the American people safe. It then cuts to a reaction from Bucky. Ok, so Valentina Allegra de Fontaine is played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Last time we saw her, she was the head of the CIA, and now it looks like she wants to put a team together. That’s what I think this court hearing is. And that’s why I think Bucky is in there with her.
Congressman Barnes

Bucky is played by Sebastion Stan, and the last time we saw him was in Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and we followed him go through therapy to recover from the Winter Soldier craziness. Now I don’t think he will fall under that code again, but the spirit of the Winter Soldier is really going to come back in this movie and I love it! In the time between now and the last time we saw him, Bucky has become a congressman. So, that’s probably why he’s sitting here in this room. However, I think he will still play the leading man for this team. He is just sitting in, as Val tries to go the legal way of creating this team. Val is really learning from the mistakes of Waller isn’t she.
Order of Events

So, this is sort of my theory on the order of events this movie plays out in. Val hires Yelena, U.S. Agent, Ghost, and Taskmaster to hunt each other down, and that’s when they meet in this bunker of sorts. That’s when that bunker explodes, and that is where I think Taskmaster bites the dust. However, Alexei is waiting at the door for Yelena, but ends up bringing the rest of the crew instead. While all of this was happening, I think Val was going through the legal proceedings so they could assemble this team. Val then sends Bucky to go get them, and we end up in this new scene, where the four of them that escaped are tied up.
Sentry and the Void

Now let’s talk about what ya’ll have clicked on this to see! We get our best look yet at this movie’s version of Sentry and I am hyped! Sentry (Bob Reynolds) is played by Lewis Pullman. This first shot we see of him, he’s engulfing the city in his shadow, and he uses his power on people. And oh my god, I was so stricken back when he used his powers on people. Things are about to get dark! I find this way of ending innocent people to be more disturbing than Thanos’ snap!
Now in the opening shot we see, it isn’t Sentry, it’s The Void. The Void is this literally inner demon that Bob Reynolds has. That is more so the evil side of Sentry. However, based off of this shot we see of normal Sentry pushing Alexei off the building, he just isn’t going to be a good person in general.
A Team is Assembled

The next shot we get, makes it look like that Bucky has Alexei, Yelena, John, and Ava captured. So, this shot gives me a theory on another way this could go. Yes, I know it contradicts the last one, but hear me out. Congressman Bucky is sitting in this court hearing, and he doesn’t agree with the reason why Val wants to put this team together in the first place. That is when he goes to catch these guys before Val gets to them. And in retaliation to Bucky, Val unleashes Sentry.
David Harbour is Red Guardian, Alexei, Florence Pugh is Yelena, Wyatt Russel is U.S. Agent, John Walker, and Hannah John-Kamen is Ghost, Ava Starr.
Yelena and Bob

Now I wanted to talk about this shot, where Yelena shoots at John and they’re wearing gas masks. And if you look, Bob Reynolds, Sentry, can be seen following Yelena. Now Bob is still in his hospital clothes from the Thunderbolts’ first encounter. I think that this new scene is them trying to let Bob free. And that would be before they knew he was Sentry. So, on an emotional storytelling level, this could give the team that guilt.
Sentry Over Powers Thunderbolts

That’s when the trailer kicks into an emotional overdrive. The team is knocked down, and Sentry rips off Bucky’s arm, just like that. We also get what’s probably our best look at Sentry yet, when he launches Alexei out of the window. I mean there has to be someone that can catch him, right?
How Can They Win?

That’s where the big question comes in. How in the world can the Thunderbolts beat Sentry?? That’s of course something we have to wait on the movie for, and it’s something that I really don’t know the answer to. I have no theories or anything, and I always think that’s fun when something like that happens.
Sentry’s Watchtower

We also get a look at Avengers tower! After 5 years, we finally know who bought it! A common theory online is that Val is turning this into Sentry’s Watchtower. Which I think is the case. In the comics Sentry was wiped from the minds of everyone, and because of that he can’t be seen, and neither can his tower. How, I think they’ll adapt this is when that shadow looms over the city, that is when the true shape of the tower is revealed.
How Will the Movie End?

Now here’s the most speculation you’ll get out of me in today’s video. How is this movie going to end?? This is most likely to be the last movie set in the sacred timeline until Avengers: Doomsday. Don’t forget, we have Fantastic Four, but that takes place in an alternate universe. So, I think that by the end of this movie, Sentry wins. I think the Thunderbolts somehow and someway put up a fight, but it isn’t enough.
I think Sentry wins by such a long shot, that he destroys the earth! What I’m saying is that I think The Void is connected to the Void. I think somehow, by the end, everyone ends up at the Void, and it is the start of Battleground. A couple months later, we’ll have a movie where we see another perspective of this multiverse rift.
