Recently, Paramount attended CinemaCon and showed attendees their first look at the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Ever since the second installment fans have been ecstatic about Shadow the Hedgehog. For a while now, the rumor has been that Hayden Christensen was set to voice Shadow. Well, that rumor can be put to rest, for film critic (and insider), John Campea, has revealed the actual voice of Shadow.
John Campea Puts Shadow Rumor to Rest
On the podcast, The John Campea Show, he talks about how he knows who the casting is. He tells viewers, that at an after party he was told by an important person (he doesn’t say who) that Christensen is not the voice. He goes on to confirm that Keanu Reeves is the voice actor. Now I would take it very lightly, because Campea isn’t a part of the major trades. Believe want you want to believe, but I always say (he admits it too) that if it doesn’t come from the major trades, then it most likely isn’t true. Now, if it is a trusted source, I would take it, and file it. Campea is a source that isn’t too much in the scooper game, but is a reliable source. At the end of the day, I understand if you don’t fully believe in this casting yet.
Shadow Casting Thoughts
For my actual thoughts on the casting, I think this is amazing. Don’t get me wrong, Hayden Christensen would’ve been a great voice for Shadow. Christensen was able to bring a light side and a dark side to Anakin Skywalker, I think he would’ve been able to do the same with Shadow. Nevertheless, it was only just a rumor that blew out of proportion. Keanu Reeves is now the voice of Shadow, until Paramount says otherwise. Although not confirmed, Keanu Reeves was revealed to be loaning his voice. The Sonic movies have done a great job so far with their castings, I think whoever they chose as Shadow will be great. Ben Schwartz disappeared into the role as the blue hedgehog, The first movie was also the introduction to Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, who made the role iconic. The second movie went on to introduce Tails and Knuckles. Tails was voiced by an actual voice actor, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, and Knuckles was voiced by the great, Idris Elba.
Keanu Reeves will be a great addition to the cast and has proved himself to be a great voice actor. He has had roles like, Duke Caboom (Toy Story 4), and even Batman (DC League of Super-Pets). If Keanu adds Shadow to his resume, then I think it would add another iconic, rememberable character that he could look back on. Don’t forget the rumors that the movie will be PG-13, because they might bring his iconic gun. Shadow is a character with great depth, and a crazy backstory, and I think if you adapt him in the movie right. I think that he could benefit the universe that the creators want to create. Shadow has such a thick backstory that it could stand on its own movie.
