Following the success of Dune: Part Two which as of now has made Warner Bros and Legendary a total of $631,278,969. Legendary themselves have now detailed that Dennis Villeneuve is at work making Dune: Part 3, based off of the book Dune: Messiah. Apart of the report by Deadline, it was revealed that Villeneuve is also at work with another film which is an adaptation of Nuclear War: A Scenario. It does look like Villeneuve will be working on putting out Dune: Part 3 first. Messiah follows Paul Atreides after his rise to the throne, and is now the emperor of the universe. Nuclear War takes place after a nuclear war, and follows dozens of interviews with military and civilian experts who built the weapons used in the war.
Concerning my personal thoughts I am excited for both of them. Villeneuve has stated the excitement he has on making the third one, and I think he is going to be able to finish off the trilogy with utter perfection. You can’t forget that Legendary and Warner Bros are at work on a Dune: Prophecy TV series. The TV show comes out this year (2024), and it is a prequel taking place before Dune (2021), and it follows the origin of the Bene Gesserit.
Nuclear War: A Scenario also sounds promising. If Denis can apply the chills from the Dune movies, and if he is able to add depth to the story, and the world building is immaculate like Dune. Then I think we can get a really good movie cooking up here. It’s not surprising that Legendary is working with him once again. Legendary has been making bank with the Dune movies, as well as the Monster-Verse, and I am sure the upcoming Minecraft movie will find success. So, it’s not surprising that they come back to Denis, probably telling him to do whatever he wants. That’s what happens when you’re a successful Hollywood director, it’s almost like they take over with their movies. Some examples I would have to say include people like Steven Spielberg, Christopher Nolan, and now Denis Villeneuve.
