Welcome back stinkers! Today James Gunn has taken to social media and has shown our first full look at Clark Kent in the upcoming DCU debut, SUPERMAN. Today I will be giving you my thoughts and theories on our first look photo for SUPERMAN.
SUPERMAN Suit Thoughts
Taking a look at the suit itself, I think I actually like it more than other people. It certainly does remind me of some of the Marvel suits. It is specifically being compared to suits like the ones from Guardians of the Galaxy. Which I think I actually really like. It’s really not a surprise either because those same costume designers are working for SUPERMAN as well. Yes, I think it could use a few less lines, but it’s not really a big deal. In fact, I think it adds even more to the suit, more in a good way.
If you also take a look at the lighting, you can tell how vibrant this suit is going to be. You can manage to see a vibrant blue near his big red boots, and it follows up to a darker part of the suit. Ya’ll that’s just the shading… Passing the crotch ;), you then get to the upper suit, and it is battle damaged.
Circling back to the crotch, you are able to make out a faint pair of red undies. Underwear on the outside baby! I have a feeling that James Gunn is going to make this something that isn’t as much of a joke. With the way James Gunn can put emotion and less of a light tone in his movies, I think he might be able to turn the undies around and make it something to where it doesn’t feel like a joke.
SUPERMAN Battle Damage
Now one of the many questions I got from this was, what has he been up to? Well, I don’t think that this photo is taken right out of the film. In fact, James Gun even said that it was taken by Jessica Miglio, the film’s still photographer. But I would only assume that they’re getting ready to film. They most likely just edited the laser after the photo was taken. When watching some people’s suit reactions, someone was able to point out the look on his face. That is a look of determination. The scene he might just be getting ready for another fight.
Based off of the inspiration that James Gunn has shown, this feels like it could fit in with his character. Someone that’s willing to do anything for the people of Metropolis. That’ll be what brings the emotional side to the movie. And I believe James Gunn is just the guy to do it. Guardians of the Galaxy is probably my favorite comic book movie trilogy, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is probably one of my favorite movies period. It’s a favorite of mine because it was really able to pull all sorts of different emotions out of me. No doubt about it, James Gunn has a lot of pressure. SUPERMAN has a lot riding on it.
Who is the Villain?
Now what’s probably the biggest mystery of the picture is, what is that big laser in the back? Well, it’s not super saiyan Goku, or Godzilla. It might just be Superman villain Brainiac. Now Brainiac’s color scheme is different from what is shown here, but this might be a slight reinvention of the character. It almost reminds me of the Zero Point from Fortnite. I hate saying that, because of all the “fans” saying that the suit looks like the skin in Fortnite. I might be blind, but I don’t see it whatsoever. There is the possibility that the jellyfish in the back could just be a conceptual art thing. Like I said, I don’t think this photo is something from the movie.
If there is a similar sequence, then this might circle back to my thoughts about Superman’s battle damage. This might just be the big finale of the movie. And Superman has to get back up after each and every punch. There might just be someone doing the dirty work of Brainiac. We already know The Engineer is in here, along with Lex Luthor. That where Superman will suit back up, and it’ll look like Superman is about to risk it all. That’s where the tears start coming, and we might just be on the edge of our seats.
SUPERMAN Photo Recap
Now I just love this photo! This suit has a combination of a lot of different Superman iterations, from Kingdomecome, All-Star Superman, and more. I think that this shows some determination and resilience that Clark Kent will have, and I think it’ll deliver a lot of emotion, and a side of Superman we’ve yet to see. It’s looking like Brainiac might just be the big villain, that’ll face off against Superman, as Clark wants to protect his people. From the inspiration shown, I can tell, Superman is going to be there for not just the people, but for each individual.
That’s going to wrap it up for today! I just wanted to pop in here will quick to talk about SUPERMAN. I absolutely cannot wait for this, I have a lot of trust in James Gunn to deliver an amazing movie. And I am willing to bet that this could be the best Superman movie. All of those haters that has made hating James Gunn their whole personality is going to do a complete turnaround, and eat their words, and act like they said nothing.
