Welcome back stinkers! Today Sony has taken it upon them to release the trailer for Venom: The Last Dance, and it is today that I give you my thoughts and my own breakdown of the trailer. Venom: The Last Dance was looking to be the last live action movie in this Sony Spider-Verse, but now that Kraven the Hunter was moved, Kraven is going to be the last. The Last Dance is however going to be the last Venom movie with Tom Hardy. So, ladies and stinkers, I present to you Venom: The Last Dance.
Venom: The Last Dance Trailer Thoughts
So, I don’t know about you, but I had a butt ton of fun watching this trailer. It was funny, action packed, and just overall looked like a fun time. If what I picked up from the trailer comes to fruition, then I think this has the chance to not only be the best Venom movie, but possibly the best Sony Spider-Verse movie. At least for live action. Speaking on the trailer itself, I got a couple of laughs, and I could even sense some emotion throughout the trailer. I think if done right, then it could make for a very emotional film. Now that this is the last dance. Venom is the best part that came out of Sony’s live action Spider-Man spinoffs. No doubt about it. I did mention earlier how this was originally going to be the last spinoff movie, but now that’s going to the Kraven movie. I do think it would’ve been more poetic if this was the last movie. You know because we started it off with Venom, and it would’ve ended with Venom. That part doesn’t really matter compared to whether the film is good or not. Based off of the trailer, the film looks really good. I just hope Sony doesn’t screw this one up like Morbius and Madame Web.
Venom’s Back!
Now that my trailer thoughts are out of the way. This is the point where I go through the trailer, break it down, and do what movie fans do best, speculate. So, we follow back with Eddie Brock, played by Tom Hardy, only this time he is in Mexico. This movie is going to be picking up right after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Marvel and Sony have been playing a game recently, between post credit scenes. In Morbius you had Michael Keaton return as the Vulture, then in Venom: Let There be Carnage, Venom was sent into the MCU with Tom Holland Spider-Man. That’s when in No Way Home, they sent Tom Hardy back to here. That’s why we see him in the same clothes from the No Way Home post credit scene. Later in the trailer we even see the same bar that we originally found him in.
Now I don’t know why Eddie has gotten himself face to face with what looks like members from the cartel. I just really take that sequence as an example of how entertaining this movie is about to be. I don’t really need much of an explanation, it looks like it would be a great, fun time. It did give me a laugh with the we are Venom thing. I think that shows how the bond between Eddie and Venom aren’t going away. I mean these characters have awesome chemistry, at least I think so. Venom then proceeds to eat the heads off of these cartel members. Now I don’t personally think that the movie is going to be rated r, because of how successful the past two installments have been with the PG-13 audience. Venom biting off some heads, does kind of lean on the R-rated side though. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see in the upcoming months.
Orwell Taylor and The Jury
We then get introduced to the characters, Orwell Taylor and possibly Patricia Robertson. Played by Chiwetel Ejiofor and Judo Temple. Ejiofor’s character Orwell Taylor is this military leader, who in the comics puts together this group of high-tech soldiers called The Jury. We see the Jury later in the trailer, who’s on the hunt for Venom. In the comics Orwell Taylor’s goal is to kill al symbiotes, because his son who was a security guard got killed by one. That would have to refer to the events of Let There be Carnage, when Carnage killed all of the prison guards to escape.
Who’s Judo Temple Playing?
Now on the Judo Temple side of things, that’s going to have to require a bit more speculation. Most people are thinking that she’s going to be the host of Scream, which I think is going to be the more likely case. My question is who the host is. I’ve seen people throw out two options, and I think that she’s going to play Patricia Robertson. Robertson, in the comics, had military ties, and it looks like Judo Temple in the movie has military ties. Temple is also allegedly going to be the love interest of Eddie Brock. Now I don’t really know how that’s going to play into here. It looks like Temple is on the opposing side here, but I would still be happy for Eddie at the end.
Now there’s two facts that could support two sides of this argument. Throughout the trailer, it looks like that there will be a third party, with the different symbiotes where he’s from. I think that near the end, Venom and The Jury might have to team up together, and that could clear a path for a relationship between Brock and Robertson. However, this is also titled Venom: The Last Dance. We already know that this will be Tom Hardy’s last Venom appearance, and it’s looking like that Eddie Brock might bite the dust. It’s looking like Venom and Eddie might sacrifice themselves to save these humans. So, if Eddie Brock is going to bite the dust, then there wouldn’t exactly be room for a relationship. The case could be that they’re falling for each other throughout the movie, just by the end Eddie sacrifices himself, which could tie an emotional bow on the franchise.
More Symbiotes
Now we get a shot of some captured symbiotes. It’s looking like this movie might introduce The Life Foundation. That does include Scream, who looks like might find a host in Judo Temple later in the film. I do think there’s a chance that the Jury might be using these symbiotes for their own. Now it’s not exactly proven just based off of the trailer, it’s just pure speculation on my part. The question is, “why are they coming?” Why are these symbiotes crashing down in the first place? Well, there’s been talks that Knull might be teased in here. Knull being the god of symbiotes. I think if there so happens to a future in this universe, then I think Knull is the one sending these symbiotes. However, if there isn’t a future. Then I don’t think Knull would be included in here. For such a big crazy villain, I don’t think it’s something you would tease in one of your last movies. Unless Knull shows up for the finale and is included in a big final fight. I don’t think that’s exactly the case though.
This Isn’t What It Looks Like
Now what might be one of the biggest mysteries, is the clip captured above. Ejiofor’s character can be seen in what looks like the same bar from No Way Home. It has a very similar background, the venom goo is there, and even the original bar tender is there. Now I don’t think this is in the same bar from No Way Home. It feels almost impossible for a character like Orwell Taylor to be traveling the multiverse. I think that Sony is going to make some lame excuse, and just say that Venom leaves pieces of goo everywhere. I think that because although the background is similar, it’s not the same. Yes, the bar tender is played by the same actor, but he has his hair down, it’s in a different style. Variants are able to be played by the same actor, but also look different. Just looking at his face though, it definitely looks like something went down, like the events from the post credit scene. So, there’s really a lot of collision in that space, so it’s kind of hard for me to give you a definitive guess.
Venom on the Run
At this point in the trailer, we see that Orwell and the Jury are trying to catch Eddie and Venom, as Venom explains to Brock that they are fugitives on the run. I mentioned earlier that Orwell will be trying to kill all symbiotes, and Venom is one he going to want to catch. That’s where they connect it to the previous film, and the case will most likely be that Orwell doesn’t know that it was Carnage who killed his son, and since Venom is the only one who came out of it, that’s who he’s immediately going to think killed his son. The one weird thing is that if what I’m thinking is true. Why would he be using symbiotes to catch a symbiote? That’s kind of where the collision is when it comes to my speculation. Since adaptation don’t copy and paste, and we don’t know a lot about Orwell’s motive yet, maybe the case is that he’s only after Venom. That might be why the symbiotes are contained, and the detective is in the cell as well.
Venom in Vegas!
We then see Eddie Brock arrive in Vegas! We see him get suited up, and he even reunites with Mrs. Chen. I’ll get into why I think Eddie’s in Vegas in the first place in a second, but I just wanted to talk about Mrs. Chen for a second. Mrs. Chen feels like the Wong of this Sony universe. She’s a truly beloved character, and I’m always going to love the appearances she makes. If this movie delivers on the emotional end. I think this “last dance” might bring a lot of emotion to the table. When it’s very likely that Eddie isn’t going to make it at the end, having that in your head, just makes it bittersweet as Venom dances with Mrs. Chen.
Now what is Venom doing in Vegas? With Eddie suiting up, bond style, it makes me think that he might be in an undercover mission. I mean that’s just what my head immediately went to. If this is the case that would just make the movie feel very convoluted. For a three-minute trailer, it really leaves a lot in the air. This trailer is as much as a tease as the original Deadpool trailer. I know this Venom teaser says, “official trailer”, but we don’t really get a sense of the solid story. I do, however, have a guess on where in time this takes place. Later in the trailer, we see him in a helicopter crash. He might be trying to hide away from the Jury, but then they find him in Vegas. That’s when they’re transporting him away, but then this creature from Venom’s home planet attacks, leading to the helicopter crashing. That’s why we see Brock in the crashed copter, in the same suit.
Toxin
Now it’s looking like this movie is about to introduce yet another symbiote, Toxin. I think that the detective who got infected with this symbiote, he might be hanging around trying to help, but when we see him lash out, that’s when they put him in the cell. That’s when we see him bang on the wall with that green in his eyes. Probably banging the wall out of frustration.\
Kurt Conners and Parker Family?
We then get a shot of Rhys Ifans in a hippie van with Eddie and this family. If you are not aware, Rhys Ifans is the actor who originally played Kurt Conners (Lizard). Call me crazy, but I actually think that Ifans might be returning as Conners. I at least hope so. If Sony is still desperate for their own universe, then why not connect it to one of the biggest movies this decade, No Way Home. I think that the Lizard might’ve returned to this universe, and because he was saved by Peter Parker (Tom Holland), that why you see him as more of a hippie. Before he worked in science, he was a solider. Often times, once someone leaves the military, they vow to live a life of peace. The case might just be that once the Lizard returned to normal, that’s when he lives in peace.
As for the Parker family, I don’t exactly think it is the Parker family. Lots of people think that the little kid might be a 10-year-old Peter Park, and I don’t exactly think Sony’s going to go that route. Here’s a direction that I think they could go. I don’t know what they’re exactly doing, they could go in infinite different directions. If Sony does end up revealing that the Venom movies take place in the Andrew Garfield universe, then I could see the 10-year-old Peter Parker working. I don’t think they will though. They could easily connect these movies to the Amazing Spider-Man movies, without really needing to do much work. You can just say this 10-year-old is the same Peter Parker, and this could be Kurt Conners, before he went into science. Conners and the Parkers might just be close friends beforehand. That’s when Venom hitch hikes with them.
Venom’s Home is Coming to us
After we see the helicopter crash, I was talking about earlier, we see an earlier point in the film (my guess) where we see symbiotes crashing down to earth. That’s when we see a new creature fighting Venom on top of an airplane! I think this is one of the different parties that’ll be featured in the movie. These symbiotes might’ve been on the hunt for Venom, and they just found them on earth. When Venom tells Eddie that they’re fugitives, he wasn’t exactly specific. What he said could definitely applied to both parties.
Breakdown and Thoughts Recap
That’s going to wrap it up for my analysis of the trailer for Venom: The Last Dance. I do have to mention the horse. Seeing that Venom horse cracked me up. I really do think this movie is going to be a lot of fun, one last hurrah. I might be riding on this movie so hard, but I don’t care. I’m starting to get a lot of anticipation for this film. It looks like it’s going to be the same level of fun that the first two brought, and by the looks of it, I think this movie might deliver an emotional side to the story. It is very much looking like Eddie or Venom might bite the dust in here. I think this might be the best live action Sony spin off film. I definitely think I’m dreaming for the stars here, but I just absolutely cannot wait.
