Welcome back stinkers! We have recently got a report from The Hollywood Reporter, “Russo Brothers in Talks to Direct Next Two Avengers Movies.” With SDCC coming real soon, it has sparked me to talk about this new report. Yes, SDCC is around the corner, and we recently got Marvel Panel Leaks with many movies, like Avengers 5 and Secret Wars.
Russo Brothers in Talks
So, speaking on the report itself, we got revealed that the Russo Brothers are in talks to direct the next two Avengers movies! Now, they’re still in talks, so nothing is official yet. That being said, it has been pointed out that Comic Con is next week. If you read my recap of the Marvel SDCC Leaks, I mentioned that there’s a chance they announce a title for Avengers 5, and the director and writer of the next two Avengers movies. Granted, that was only a leak. However, the Avengers is one of the scoops that I actually buy. No matter who it is, I think they’re going to announce a director for Avengers 5 and Secret Wars. If you were to line up the official Hollywood reporter scoop, and the online leak, then I think the Russos aren’t in talks. I think they’re already signed on to direct.
This is going to be one of the biggest announcements of SDCC, and one of the biggest Marvel movies in general. There has been no doubt that Marvel is at a weaker state compared to where they were in the Infinity Saga. I don’t think Marvel has been “dead”, just not as good. My opinion doesn’t exactly matter in the grand scheme of things, but more people have jumped off the Marvel train. So, with Marvel in a bit of a rehabilitation, they’re going to need to gain the trust from fans. If they were to show up at Hall H, and they announce that the Russo Brothers are going to come back to direct Avengers, people are going to get right on board.
The Trust and Hype of Marvel Fans
So, talking about the Marvel fans. Again, they’re going to need to gain the trust back from some Marvel fans. The Russo Brothers have directed some of the best not just MCU movies, but comic book movies. They’ve directed Captain America: Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers Endgame. Those aren’t only critically successful; they were financially successful. Avengers: Endgame made $2.8 billion, making it the second highest grossing movie of all time! So, I think bringing back the Russo Brothers is a safe bet. It’ll get Marvel fans excited, and it would even extend to the general audience. So, I’m not surprised to see the headline, “Russo Brothers in Talks to Direct Next Two Avengers Movies”.
Back to the release of Endgame and Infinity War, the Russo Brothers took place in some interviews, and mentioned that they would love to direct Secret Wars. So, assuming that it is going to be a done deal for SDCC, again, it’ll get the whole audience hyped! When doing promotion for the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds mentioned that him and Shawn Levy gave countless pitches for Kevin Feige. It was once Hugh Jackman came on board; Kevin Feige finally gave it a go. I think that the Russo Brothers and Avengers are going through the same process. If they’re going to announce it at Comic Con, I would assume they would need a basic story to build off of.
Marvel Hall H Presentation
The one set back that I see is that the writer, Michael Waldron, has recently left the project. However, there’s a chance that Waldron really left a while ago, and they already have a new writer. That’s when they can bring a new writer, as a bit of a drum roll for the Russo Brothers. Hypothetically, once the Russo Brothers come on stage, I think they’re going to reveal the official title for Avengers 5. If they really wanted to get the crowd riled up, they could bring out 2-4 official cast members. That’s where the Marvel panel leak can come in. Apart of the recent leak, it was stated that they are going to announce the return of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.
That would basically be all we need for Avengers. The announcement of a writer and director for both films, a title for Avengers 5, and a tease of the cast, bringing out Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.
