Welcome back stinkers! D23 was just a couple days ago, and that came with lots of different trailers! I promise you, those are still coming, but we got a new Kraven the Hunter Trailer. So, before we get into DIsney trailers, I will be talking about the one Sony trailer.
Kraven the Hunter Trailer Thoughts
Now, I’m just going to say it. This Kraven the Hunter Trailer was surprisingly great. I wasn’t looking forward to this movie when the first trailer came out, and I haven’t been excited since. So, seeing that the trailer released in the middle of the night, I watched it with not much hope. Ya’ll this trailer was awesome! No, it’s not going to be Shakespeare, but it looks like it could be a fun time. The R rated violence certainly helps with the entertainment. I think the best part of the trailer was seeing Kraven actually be Kraven the Hunter. He’s actually hunting other people, and it looks great. That’s about it for my thoughts. It’s as simple as that. It just looks like a good time, and could potentially reach Venom or more level.
Kraven the Hunter Trailer Analysis
Piggybacking off of Two Things
So, one thing that’s different about this movie from the other Sony titles, is the fact that it’s rated R. From the trailer alone it looks like it would be a bloody fun time. It is kind of clear that Sony is riding the wave that was Deadpool & Wolverine, but that’s okay. It’ll only get ticket sales up. The other thing, that is possibly a stretch, is Johnny Cash. Logan is known to be one of the best comic book movies of all time, and I think the first trailer is the best of all time as well. Johnny Cash’s Hurt played over the Logan trailer. Although, the Kraven trailer has a different song, it’s quite close. Just put a Johnny Cash song in your trailer and it can create magic! I don’t think that Kraven is going to be as emotional as Logan, but I think Kraven the Hunter has a chance to surprise us all.
Kraven is Actually Hunting!
Now what might be one of my favorite shots is the one above. Sony is known to be making terrible decisions when it comes from differentiating itself from the comics. Doing that could have both a positive impact and a negative impact. I think the recent Madame Web falls under that negative impact. However, from the looks of the trailer, we’re getting a Kraven the Hunter, not just a Kraven. I’m also loving the suit, and just everything about it. You’re going to see a first look at another character in a moment. I’m just going to say that I am loving the character designs of the movie so far. I also just want to give props to them on not giving us false hopes for Spider-Man. From the past two Sony Marvel movies, Spider-Man was teased in the trailer, and it never came to fruition. I don’t even think I saw a spider in this trailer.
Kraven’s Father
Russel Crowe is playing another comic book father! First it was Superman’s in Man of Steel, then Zeus in Thor: Love and Thunder. Now we have Sergio Kravinoff, Kraven’s dad. We learn a bit more about him in this trailer. He’s “a bit of a gangster” and a mafia boss. He’s looking to be the main villain of the film, as well as possibly being in cahoots with his son. I believe what happens is that we see Sergio hire Aleksei Sytsevich (Rhino) who we see later in the trailer. From the looks of it, I think Russel Crowe is going to be great in the film.
Chameleon?
Some people were able to point out that it looks like Dmitri Smerdyakov is going to be in the film. If you didn’t know, Dmitri is a lesser known Spider-Man villain, The Chameleon. The Chameleon is actually Kraven’s half brother, and he has the ability to disguise himself and impersonate others. Now we don’t see The Chameleon, we only see Dmitri. So, I’m hoping that they deliver on a great design for him. Sony could either pull a Sony, and do a terrible job, or they can make something great. After seeing the likes of Kraven and Rhino, I have a feeling they’re going to give us a great Chameleon. Piecing everything we got from this trailer, here is a bit of what I think is going to happen. I think that Kraven has done something to upset his father, which leads him to hiring assassins to hunt him down. I think one of those is the Rhino, as well as the Chameleon.
The Rhino
Now for the big money piece of the trailer, Rhino. Now just based on this, I think this is the best Rhino design that we have gotten. In the Kraven the Hunter Trailer, we see Aleksei, and we’ve also seen him in the very first teaser from a year ago. So, I think that Aleksei and Kraven’s dad is going to have more of an established connection. I then think that we are going to see Kraven’s dad make Aleksei take some sort of mutation, to where he mutates into a Rhino. From reliable leakers, apparently Rhino wasn’t supposed to be in the film at all. Except for the very end, where we would’ve gotten a tiny tease of him. I’ll talk more about that in a second.
Kraven the Hunter Reshoots
So, I think it’s time we talk about the elephant in the room. Kraven the Hunter was supposed to come out last year, and has faced some extensive reshoots. It’s looking like we might be seeing some of those changes right now. In the first trailer we see that when Kraven was a boy, he got bit by a lion, which gave him powers to connect with all animals. Well, it’s looking like they’re scrapping that idea after the poor reception, because there was none of that in this trailer. Another thing that they might’ve changed which I just mentioned was Rhino. A reliable scooper online stated that it was originally going to be a teaser at the end of the film. That was a good idea on Sony’s part to change because that would’ve drove people nuts! I also wouldn’t be surprised if they removed any sort of Spider-Man details from the film. Especially after the reception of Morbius and Madame Web.
