Lanterns Finds Co-Star in Aaron Pierre

Welcome back stinkers! The DCU’s Lanterns finds co-star in Aaron Pierre! That is our third Green Lantern for the DCU. First was Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, then Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan, and now Aaron Pierre as John Stewart. Of course, Chandler and Pierre will be the two leads of Lanterns, and Fillion will make his debut in SUPERMAN.

Now I’m not really all that familiar with Aaron Pierre, but it seems like he’s a good actor. He was just recently in the hit Netflix movie, Rebel Ridge. He was also apparently in a DC series already in Krypton. Similar to Kyle Chandler, I think that Aaron Pierre seems like a great pick! Later this year, people will also get to see him as Mufasa in the Lion King prequel. I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again. Looks don’t necessarily matter, but if you wanted that cherry on top, Pierre looks just like the John Stewart character.

Now traditionally, Hal Jordan is the main Green Lantern. He’s certainly the most iconic. However, with Kyle Chandler being an older guy, it looks like he’s going to take that mentor type role to John Stewart (Aaron Pierre). With it looking like John Stewart will be our main Green Lantern, people are thinking that Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) will die in the upcoming season. I absolutely do not think that whatsoever! Just because Hal is older than usual doesn’t mean he has to die! I just think that he won’t be with the core Justice League. He at least certainly doesn’t die for the first couple of seasons (if the show gets any more). I can already imagine Aaron Pierre as John Stewart standing with David Corenswet’s Superman. I can’t wait any longer for this DCU to get started!

The HBO series, Lanterns is set to be a True Detective type show, that features stars, Hal Jordan and John Stewart. Via The Hollywood Reporter, it’ll focus on an older Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler), reluctantly mentoring a young John Stewart. The Hollywood Reporter goes on to say, this story will follow the two characters solving an Earth-bound murder with larger implications. Now before I give you my thoughts, something to note is that Chris Mundy (Ozark), Damon Lindelof (Watchmen, Lost) and Eisner Award-winning comics writer Tom King. The trio are co-writing and executive producing the project, with Mundy as showrunner.

Now from that little bit of information, I am hyped! Now the Green Lanterns franchise hasn’t exactly been the most loved group of superheroes. I however think that James Gunn’s DCU could turn that around. We’re going to be introduced to the Lanterns side of things in SUPERMAN, with Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion), who I think we’ll see in this Lanterns series. So, with how strong of a writer James Gunn is, I think he could get some fans on board with Guy Gardner, and that could lead into Lanterns, being created by a strong team of creatives.
