Last night Warner Bros had their CinemaCon presentation and they have had quite the announcements. Warner Bros dropped the trailer for Joker Folie à Deux. That being the only public trailer, there was still the Super/Man A Christopher Reeves Story. The Shyamalans revealed trailers for their next movies which have got me hype. There was so much more, and you have gone to the right place to hear them. If you want, feel free to check out my CinemaCon predictions for the rest of the week. Don’t forget to come back after reading this for updates from other studio presentations.
Warner Bros: Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
Warner Bros opened their presentation with a sizzle reel of the upcoming Furiosa movie. Out on stage they brought the great George Miller, Chris Hemsworth, and Anya-Taylor Joy. The video shown was described as a sizzle reel showing off the three acts of the film. The audience that attended described the sound as ecstatic and amazing. George Miller also went on to say that unlike Mad Max: Fury Road, where that film took place over three days. Furiosa will take place over twelve to sixteen years.
Warner Bros: Shyamalan Movie Announcements
M. Night Shyamalan is at it again, but he isn’t alone this time. His daughter, Ishana, is making a new movie called The Watchers. Warner Bros showed an extended look of the film, and it was described as eerie and creepy. It follows a group of people who find themselves trapped at an isolated location in the woods. Now where the title comes into play is the fact that the group is being watched by an entity of sorts. Or maybe even entities.
The man himself, M. Night Shyamalan was also in attendance. He then gave a first look preview to his new movie, Trap. Attendees explained that the movie follows a dad bringing his younger daughter to a concert with a ton of people there. The dad then leaves his daughter a minute to go to the bathroom, but he notices police trucks and vehicles outside the building. He then asks the concession stand work what is going on. The worker explains that police have gotten a tip that the serial killer, The Butcher, is at the concert. The dad goes to the bathroom with a look of worry, until he pulls out his phone, with live footage of his last victim. So, now the dad has to hide in the venue, with the tons of people in attendance, and his little girl with him. Now this description sounds like a making of a great movie. I understand the Shyamalan has had some stinkers, but I honestly can’t wait for this one.
Warner Bros: Mickey 17
Warner Bros then showed an extended trailer for Bong Joon Ho’s, Mickey 17. The movie is based off of the book Mickey 7. The story follows Robbert Pattinson apart of this science experiment where he is cloned 17 times. Only on the 18th time, Mickey 17 seems to be alive along with 18. The trailer was described as a comedic dystopian sci fi, with Robert Pattinson almost being unrecognizable with his accented voice. The cast also includes Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo.
Warner Bros: Super/Man: A Christopher Reeves Story
Before getting into the trailer for this new documentary. Warner Bros showed a video sent by James Gunn, and Gunn explained a bit of this new movie, along with showing a better look at the new Superman logo, a part of his new movie. It was then said that Gunn passed it to his co-partner, Peter Safran. It was said that the Super/Man documentary was so good, both Gunn and Safran wanted to put this movie in theatres. The documentary is about Christopher Reeves getting the role of Superman, but more importantly the hardships that he would face after that. The trailer was described by many to be sad, and people explained how almost the whole audience was at tears. So, make sure you look out online for the trailer for, Super/Man: The Christopher Reeves Story.
Warner Bros: Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
Michael Keaton, and the rest of the cast of the new Beetlejuice sequel appeared on stage to explain more of the movie. Keaton went on to talk about how the same Burton style is still featured in the film. There will be a mixture of Claymation, stop motion, and physical props. Although it is very common that actors praise their own movie, Keaton seemed actually honest on his thoughts of the film. He goes on to say that is just like the original, with the same Tim Burton comedy.
Warner Bros: Joker Folie a Deux
Joker Folie a Deux is certainly a movie that has split the fanbase in half. Safe to say the new trailer is starting to get fans on board with the movie. The sequel follows Joker in Arkham Asylum, but he meets the love of his life, Harley Quin. Lady Gaga is the only other Harley Quin that has appeared on film, the first being, Margot Robbie. The thing that had gotten fans a bit worried is the musical aspect. Director, Todd Phillips, made clear that this is less of a musical, and more of a movie with musical elements. Elaborating on my thoughts of the trailer, I think this is probably one of my favorite trailers so far this year. The trailer was able to capture the emotion behind the psychotic clown, and I think that it is pretty impressive to do when you make an evil character relatable and emotional. This sequel is seeming to be a different type of a movie that hasn’t been seen yet. A couple days ago, it was announced that this movie would be getting an R rating. So, a mixture of the R rated details that we’ve gotten, and the love story that will occasionally breakout into dance and song could make for a really good and unique movie. I got to say, the imagery in the trailer is spectacular. Specifically at the end where Harley says that she wants to see the real to you to Aurthor. Joker then aligns himself with the lipstick smile that she put on the screen.
Warner Bros: Other Upcoming Features
At the end of the presentation, Warner Bros showed some films that are releasing next year. One of those films being, Minecraft. Jack Black sent in a video from the set of the movie, explaining a little bit more about the movie. He didn’t give too much a way, but he says that it is going to be a different type of blockbuster, and comedy that you’ve never really seen before. Hearing about that just got me a little more excited about the film, especially knowing that the director is the same person behind Nacho Libre, and Napoleon Dynamite. Something that I did get wrong in my predictions, is that I thought they were going to show some footage for the upcoming Lord of the Rings movie. All they had shown from the film is the logo, which we had gotten before. Director Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan then appeared on screen, announcing their fifth film together. Their upcoming film is going to be a movie that is about vampires, facing the KKK. A movie earlier in the presentation they talked about is the movie, Horizon: An American Saga. The western is split into two parts, the first is going to be released in June, and the second is going to be released the month after, August.
That is going to be it for my recap of the Warner Bros Presentation. Today, Lionsgate, and Universal showed their presentations, so make sure to come back tomorrow to read up on the two.
