Welcome back stinkers! Today I got another breakdown and review for you, being Creature Commandos Episode 2. If you haven’t yet, I would recommend you go check out my video on Episode 1. Also make sure you like and subscribe for more.
Creature Commandos Episode 2 Review
Now, I thought this episode was a step up from the last. I honestly think that’s going to be the progression of the show all throughout. It’s of course a character centric episode, focusing on The Bride, and it showed the most potential for the rest of the series. It has gotten me excited for more, and it got me curious on how they’re going to handle the other character centric episodes. Episode 3 is going to be focused on G.I. Robot, seemingly in World War II. So, with the tragic backstory of The Bride, you are bound to feel rather emotional, and I say it did a good job at that. It’s also not The Bride you feel for, but also Eric Frankenstein. That’ll be something I’ll get into in a moment.
Now before I move on to more of my breakdown of the episode. I wanted to mention that this episode had some great action. The action is definitely where a lot of my enjoyment of the show has come from so far.
Frankenstein
Episode 2: Tourmaline Necklace, starts in 1831 at Frankenstein’s castle, where Eric Frankenstein explains to Victor how he’s been yearning for a wife. Eric Frankenstein is voiced by David Harbour, who just about already puts on a great performance. Now, we get a couple of references to the original Frankestien novel and film. Eric’s opening line was taken straight out of the novel. How they show the creation of the bride is practically from the original film. In this episode, The Bride gravitated towards Victor, as Eric scared her half to death.
We also get another reference to the film, with Frankenstein and his bouquet of daisies. James Gunn loves to use this reference, with Groot also giving the little girl a daisy. In the original Frankenstein movie, Frankenstein’s monster gives a little girl a daisy and proceeds to throw her in the lake. Based on what we have learned about this character. I would not be surprised if he did so in this series.
Circe and The Sons of Themyscira
We then move on to our first encounter with Circe! Outside of the news and media. It looks like they’ve used these suckups as her men, as her firearms. In the comics, the Sons of Themyscira were a group of guys that were abandoned by their mothers. From the female only tribe, Themyscira. So, literally the Sons of Themyscira. However, in James Gunn’s universe, it looks like they’re just a bunch of weird guys that call themselves that.
Frankenstein Kills Victor
Now, what I’ve been trying to make clear, is that David Harbour as Eric Frankenstein was my favorite part of this episode. I just couldn’t help but feel so bad for him. He just about has the mind of a child, and he’s not at the point where he can control his anger and his emotions very well. So, when Eric kills Victor, you don’t only feel bad for The Bride and the traumatic experience she had to face. I couldn’t help but also feel bad for Eric, who didn’t really know much better, and was desperate for love.
We then end the episode with Nina Muzursky and The Bride lying there, practically half dead. I would only assume we pick the next episode up, with Flag and the rest of the crew finding them hanging right on the edge.
Frankenstein Chases his Bride
It however, doesn’t actually end there, but we also go through a whole sequence of Frankenstein chasing The Bride all throughout history. It goes from Paris in 1852, a Western Saloon in 1880, the Saraha desert in 1895, in 1912 they fought in classic diving gear, 1923 it looks like they’re in a Jazz type Speakeasy, even fighting in WWII in 1941. The two then fight on a bus in 1964. Fighting in a club in 1991, Eric can be seen wearing the same shirt Rick Flag Jr. wheres in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. They then flash through many more time periods, but a certain character makes an appearance! Yes, Shaggy makes a cameo! James Gunn of course penned the scripts for the two live action Scooby Doo movies.
