Welcome back stinkers! With Deadpool & Wolverine right around the corner, Ryan Reynolds officially gave us the Deadpool & Wolverine Final Trailer. This trailer has started to give us a bit more spoilers, but I have a feeling this is only the tip of the iceberg. This trailer features, action, spoilers, and more questions than answers. So, without further ado, my last Deadpool & Wolverine trailer analysis.
Deadpool & Wolverine Final Trailer Thoughts
Now, I’m just going to say it. This is the best trailer we have gotten so far. I wasn’t expecting that turn in tone when watching this. The first two trailers have been funny and lighthearted, with hints of emotion. However, with this new trailer rolling out, it was serious, and very emotional. I just felt every line, and I even came to tears with some of those lines. You feel for all the characters! Moving on from that seriousness, it was great on all other fronts.
The action looks great! I mean of course this was a less comedic trailer, but from trailers past, I don’t think they’re going to have a problem. One of my favorite lines so far was just from the Everyone Trailer, “That’s right! Disney brought him back. They’re going to keep him until he’s 90!” I truly think Deadpool & Wolverine is going to be something special, as it exceeds our expectations.
Deadpool & Wolverine Final Trailer Analysis
Asgard and the Void
So, one of the only references we have gotten to the Loki show is this shot with an Asgard landmark. The Royale Palace of Valaskjalf last made its appearance in Loki Season 1, where Old Man Loki made that projection in the void. Two things to note. With this trailer giving us confirmation that this is the void since later we can see different buildings getting pruned and landing in the Void. Now I really wonder if this is the same palace from that Loki Season finale.
There was also this one detail from the CInemaCon footage, where Deadpool finds a screen in the TVA where his corpse is being held by Thor. Now I don’t think that has anything to do with this shot here. I just thought it was important to note. If anything, I think that this will just be a remnant of Marvel’s past, and this might just be a background easter egg.
A Long-Awaited Team Up
We then get a rather emotional moment between Deadpool and Wolverine. Wade starts off really strong, ” I know I turn everything into a joke, but I care.” We then get a shot of them about to square off, but then the moment that I want to talk about is when Wade says, “I waited a long time for this team up.” Yes, that a more emotional line, and Ryan Reynolds does such a great job with his delivery. Just look at the background though. Behind Deadpool, we can see that same tunnel we see in the PSA that plays in the theaters. This is where Wolverine breaks the fourth wall and tells everyone to shut off their phones. I just don’t know where this is.
In that PSA we see Wolverine in his long sleeves, but now he’s in his battle-damaged armor. This could be his living quarters, because in past trailers we see him and Wade with his dinasour bed from Thor Ragnarok. There has also been this leaks TV spot not that long ago that sees Cassandra Nova shove Wolverine down into the ground. I don’t think that’s it, but it is worth noting.
Now speaking on that line a bit, I think this is Deadpool representing us, the audience. We’ve been waiting for this team up for many years now. Now that I say it, Deadpool could be talking for himself too. Who knows how long he’s been looking for the right Wolverine to team up with? He’s known his Logan for a while too, because of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. He might have just felt sidelined by him, and almost looked up to him in his own universe.
Deadpool’s Logan
We then get a bit of this back and forth between Deadpool and Wolverine. Again, it’s a bit more of an emotional one. We get a montage of different moments from Wolverine’s past movies, as Wade explains what Logan was like in his universe. Now that I mention it, I really wonder if Wade is going to mention the events of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Him and Logan knew each other, but then they were forced to fight at the end. Now I know the end of Deadpool 2 kind of retconned that, but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t be self-aware of those events.
It’s weird too, because from my understanding of time travel, if you were to kill your past self, you would die in your current state. As we can see, Deadpool is not dead. So, I think those time travel shenanigans might have branched off to different universes, and the Deadpool we know and the Wade he killed was in different universe.
Wolverine’s Universe
Now Deadpool is telling this Wolverine how well regarded his Logan was, but Wolverine says that he wasn’t shit in his. It really makes me wonder what happened that makes his universe different from the one we know. Later in the trailer he explains that Scott, Storm, and Beast begged him to wear the suit. He called them out by name too. So, Wolverine wouldn’t wear the suit, and in remembrance of them, he keeps the suit on. I mean literally, in that bar scene, I’m pretty sure he has the suit under his jacket.
My speculation is leading me to think that we see what happens in the opening of the film. It is clear that something terrible happened in his universe, and he blames himself for it. With this trailer proving that this is going to be a film that’s emotional, and not all fun and games, I have a feeling that Wolverine is going to have that emotional drive of the film. With Wolverine being a much more jaded character, we might just gravitate towards him more. It’s literally said in one of the trailers, his world went to shit, and Deadpool’s is about to as well. So, I think that’s going to be a compelling part of the film.
Toad and Past X-Men Characters
We then get out best shot yet of Ray Park’s Toad from the original X-Men. He’s actually driving the Fantasti-Car. I think this part is going to be towards the beginning of the film, where Deadpool and Wolverine finds themselves in the void. They’re then going to be in the middle of duking it out. I say that because you can see Deadpool’s swords in Wolverine, and they’re going to get interrupted by the older X-Men villains. That’s where we see Toad enter the scene. My only guess is that Sabretooth follows, and that going to be that clip where Deadpool pulls the swords out of Wolverine in order to fight Sabretooth.
Hold on, I’m not done yet. I think that after that fight we are going to see these two get captured in those spherical cages. The leakers and scoopers are actually saying that someone with the big name is going to be joining them. That’s when I think they’re going to be escorted to Cassandra Nova’s compound, the big Ant-Man corpse. That’s where we see other past mutants like Azazel and Lady Deathstrike. Speaking of Nova’s compound, we actually get a better look of it in here, Scott Lang’s skull and everything. This time we see more of Alioth, the smoke monster from Loki.
Cassandra Nova Enters Wolverine’s Mind
One quick shot that I wanted to talk about was Cassandra Nova toying with Wolverine. From the looks of it, Cassandra is getting in Wolverine’s head, making him relive his past trauma. She’s entering the mind, to use what’s in there against him. That’s where I think that shot of Logan and the tombstones comes to play, and that’s some sort of astral plane. If we don’t see what happened in his universe at the beginning of the film, I think we would see it here. Now that I say it, I’m leaning towards the latter half of that. It really just comes down to structure.
At the beginning, I think Wolverine’s character is going to be established and we know he has been through a lot. I then think that we’re going to get that journey and snippets of what happened when he meets Deadpool to here. That’s when they can get us in the feels, where we experience what happens with a Wolverine, we’ve already had time to grow with.
Deadpool’s Whole World
Yet again, we get a rather emotional moment with Deadpool. He explains that the nine people in this picture, is his world. Which is really sweet. Kevin Feige has actually mentioned that this is going to be the most heartfelt rated r movie you’ll see. His “world” consists of Blind Al, Vanessa, Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Yukio, Colossus, Peter, Dopinder, Shatterstar, and Buck. All of the original actors are returning for their characters.
On social media, Ryan Reynolds has teased some sort of Anarchy Avengers. I think that these two are going to escape Cassandra Nova’s compound in this car, and then we are going to get this moment with the picture. Then I think that Wade’s whole speech is going to help get Wolverine on board, and they’re going to go around and assemble the Anarchy Avengers. That’s where you can tie in that scene where we see Deadpool and Wolverine exit the car, but with every door of the car open behind them. After the Anarchy Avengers raid the compound, that’s when we’re going to see them confront Cassandra Nova, who will then open that portal we saw in an earlier trailer.
Cassandra Nova and Loki Ties
Now this moment isn’t my favorite, but it has me the most curious. We see a shot of Cassandra Nova with this weird device, and we see everything turn into spaghetti. This is the other only sort of tie into Loki that I have noticed so far. If you didn’t remember, it was the Loki Season 2 finale where we saw Loki trying to save reality, but he would keep failing. The representation of that is the reality turning into spaghetti. I just don’t know what’s happening here. It has been highly speculated and rumored that Deadpool & Wolverine could introduce the new X-Men team to the MCU.
I’m speculating a lot here, so don’t take what I say as fact. Never take what I say as fact! If that becomes true, then maybe the goal for Cassandra Nova is to activate more mutants across the multiverse, and this device is allowing her to activate that mutant gene. Or it could be the other way around, and she could be trying to get rid of some mutants. That’s why the TVA wants to get Deadpool, because Cassandra is a threat to the multiverse. If anything, this could also be a flash back, and this is how her fingers get really long.
X-23 Returns!
This might just be the most hyped-up moment of the Deadpool & Wolverine Final Trailer. We see Wolverine sitting by the campfire, but then it’s revealed that he was talking to Daphne Keen’s, Laura Howlett. So, what is the context of this scene? Wolverine says, “You got the wrong guy.” X-23 replies with, “You were always the wrong guy.” Now I don’t know if it was because of the Logan movie, but I let out a tear when I first watched this. People are getting angry that they “spoiled” this cameo, but this is only the tip of the iceberg.
So, what I think is happening is that Deadpool and Wolverine is going to get back to the main Fox universe where Deadpool is from. We see that in the smaller trailer, Everyone. I think that Deadpool is going to take Wolverine to see Laura, to show him a bit of what the Logan we know was like. That’s when Laura is going to talk some since into him, and that’s going to lead the two to fight back. That might just be where they drive to first, because we see that their car is sitting right behind Wolverine.
Now, I’m assuming that these are the same woods that Logan died in. So, that means the snowy area that we see Deadpool fight the TVA guards in is somewhere else. Those woods have snow, while the ones we see in this trailer does not. So, if that’s the case. Then I’m going to circle back to the popular theory that it’s where Avengers: Age of Ultron opened in. That’s where I’m leaning towards after seeing this trailer, but I really just think it’s going to be neither.
The Deadpool Corps
Now the other hyped up shot of the Deadpool & Wolverine final trailer, is our first full look at Lady Deadpool. Now, I’m not going to talk about who’s playing her all that much. However, I think it’s Blake Lively and I’m sticking with that. It’s looking like she’s going to lead the pack, because behind her we see a whole army of Deadpool variants. The two ones that I can really spot out, is Headpool up aboce, and Deadpool Kid with the cowboy hat. They’re also going to be joined by Dogpool of course, who will then join forces with Deadpool and Wolverine. It’s looking like this scene might be parodying the scene from Avengers: Endgame, with the portal opened up behind them.
So, we see the Deadpool Corps enter through the portal, and I believe this is in the retail area with the buildings. Now, I’ve been able to kind of connect and speculate about the different scenes, but I’m truly stumped on this sequence. I have no guess on where this part of the movies is or where it might be going.
Spider-Man Reference
We then end the Deadpool & Wolverine Final Trailer off, with a little reference to Spider-Man. They’re in that van that we see reoccurring throughout the trailer, and Deadpool is thwiping like Spider-Man. Now, I don’t think that this means we are getting Spider-Man himself in the movie. This is more than likely just a reference, and a joke put in the movie. This film is the celebration/funeral for Marvel Fox, not as much as other Marvel features. I do expect things from the MCU will be in here, and possibly some others. I however think adding Spider-Man in here is unlikely. There’s simply not a lot more room left, and the stuff with Sony doesn’t help either. Again, this is more than likely a Spider-Man joke, not a tease that Spider-Man is coming.
