Welcome back stinkers! We are finally talking more DCU today! Just not that, we get to talk about one of my most anticipated projects for James Gunn’s new DC universe. Well folks, we have finally found out who will wear the ring. Kyle Chandler is the first star added to the cast, as Hal Jordan.

Kyle Chandler

Via The Hollywood Reporter, sources tell them that Kyle Chandler has officially been cast as Hal Jordan. So, Kyle Chandler isn’t someone that I’ve seen a whole lot of, only really in the Godzilla and Kong movies. So, just based off of the little I know, Kyle Chandler looks to be an awesome pick! I never really think that someone has to look like a character to play a character. However, Chandler looks like a Hal Jordon! I think that it will be even better with him in that wise mentor role. He’s still going to be able to make those funny whips and be humorous. He’s also going to be more of a seasoned character.

You should also remember too that this is going to be a full universe, and this Green Lantern is going to need to be with a Superman and a Batman. It’s a more fantastical world. However, I don’t think he would be a Green Lantern that we see in a Justice League team up. I think that would be more of a John Stewart possession. However, I think that DC would try to lead up to an Endgame level event, and we could see Hal Jordan appear in something like that. I would also go further and say that we could build up to an event and see the death of Hal Jordon. Just speculation, but I think Kyle Chandler could pull it off.

Lanterns

Discussion] For Green Lantern, do you like John Stewart or Hal Jordan better? reposted because i messed up bracket : r/DCcomics

The HBO series, Lanterns is set to be a True Detective type show, that features stars, Hal Jordan and John Stewart. Via The Hollywood Reporter, it’ll focus on an older Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler), reluctantly mentoring a young John Stewart. The Hollywood Reporter goes on to say, this story will follow the two characters solving an Earth-bound murder with larger implications. Now before I give you my thoughts, something to note is that Chris Mundy (Ozark), Damon Lindelof (Watchmen, Lost) and Eisner Award-winning comics writer Tom King. The trio are co-writing and executive producing the project, with Mundy as showrunner.

Now from that little bit of information, I am hyped! Now the Green Lanterns franchise hasn’t exactly been the most loved group of superheroes. I however think that James Gunn’s DCU could turn that around. We’re going to be introduced to the Lanterns side of things in SUPERMAN, with Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion), who I think we’ll see in this Lanterns series. So, with how strong of a writer James Gunn is, I think he could get some fans on board with Guy Gardner, and that could lead into Lanterns, being created by a strong team of creatives.

Overarching DCU Connection

Guy Gardner, DC's Most Obnoxious Green Lantern, Explained - Nerdist

So, before I let you go, I wanted to think about what the overarching DCU connection could be. So, we already know that Nathon Fillion will play Guy Gardner, and I could very much see him appearing in the Lanterns series. Now, back when James Gunn made his original announcement, he mentioned that Lanterns will unveil the bigger story of the DCU. So, I think this “murder” that the Hollywood Reporter mentions, will apply some of these implications. If it is done right, then we could possibly have a connection with that character. So, if we open on this person being killed, it can be emotional right off the bat.

With us most likely going to see Guy Gardner, I’m hoping we get the debut of some other Lanterns. So, I personally think we can maybe see a Kyle Rayner, and a Jessica Cruz. I even have my fingers crossed for a Killowog appearance. Of course, they won’t be a huge focus in the series, but there’s always room for side characters.
