Welcome back stinkers! We have recently gotten the news that an X-Men movie is moving along in development at Marvel Studios. Keep in mind this is following the great success of X-Men ’97, as well as the hype of Deadpool & Wolverine. Today I will be giving you my thoughts on the news, along with my theories.
X-Men Film Moving Along at Marvel
It wasn’t all that long ago that Disney has obtained the company, 20th Century Fox, now known as 20th Century Studios. Well, Marvel is finally starting to pick up some mutant speed with X-Men ’97, and Deadpool & Wolverine. Well, it looks like we’re finally going to get an MCU X-Men film.
Michael Lesslie is officially in talks to write the live action screenplay. What’s probably the biggest thing to take notice of, is the fact that he has originally wrote the 2023 movie, Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. The only other piece of news that we got was that Kevin Feige is set to produce. As of now, no talent or director is attached to the film. If you haven’t caught on by now, the film is very early in development.
X-Men Movie Writer Thoughts
So, speaking upon my thoughts of this news, I really like the choice. Talking about Kevin Feige first, that’s something that you just need to expect for a Marvel movie. It’s just the fact that it’s a great full circle for Feige, going all the way back to the original 2000 X-Men. Now, talking about the writer, I really like this choice. Although, I have not yet seen the Hunger Games movies, I am aware of how good Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes was. The X-Men is a group of superheroes where you need to get the politics right. The Hunger Games is a very political franchise, and I think Lesslie would transfer that very nicely. Now one movie of Leslie’s that might worry some people, is Assassins Creed. I have not seen Assassins Creed either, but it isn’t well received by fans and viewers. It’s very unfortunate that I can’t get my personal view on things. I might just have to add Hunger Games to my watchlist.
MCU Impacts: Where Could the Movie go?
Now what direction might this movie go in? Marvel is rolling hot, off of the success of X-Men ’97, along with the hype for the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine. I would believe those might have some impacts, writing wise and direction wise. X-Men ’97 has recently proven that you don’t need Wolverine up and center, to have a good X-Men team. He was quite frankly side lined in the recent episode, but look at where this show is now. However, Wolverine is by far the most popular X-Men character. He might not be your favorite, but he’s the most well-known. The team’s chemistry in the show is the best, and the politics are also better than ever. I would definitely hope they bring that into the new movie.
There’s a little movie coming out this summer, called Deadpool & Wolverine. Now, I wonder if it will have any impact on the future of the MCU, let alone the X-Men. Of course, Wolverine is the co-star of the movie, played by the amazing Hugh Jackman. I think that by the end of the movie, we’ll get the set up for Avengers: Secret Wars. Many people have speculated that Secret Wars is going to be a soft reboot for the franchise. I think Marvel will go the reboot route, and that’ll introduce the new X-Men. However, I think beforehand we’ll get one last team up with the original X-Men. We’ve already gotten Kelsey Grammer Beast in The Marvels, and now we’re getting Hugh Jackman Wolverine. I would only hope that the original X-Men could be done justice, and Secret Wars is the place where we can get one last hurrah.
