Welcome back stinkers! Summer is just around the corner, and when summer comes, blockbusters follow. Today I will be telling you my 10 most anticipated movies of summer 2024. Before I get started I will like to say, these are movies that are going to the theaters. This does not include movies heading straight to streaming.

10.) A Quiet Place: Day One

John Krasinski has done some amazing work with his Quiet Place movies. Although he isn’t directing Day One, he is still writing the film. This time around ,the dial is turned down to day one of the alien invasion. We follow a new group of survivors. In the trailer we meet Sam played by Lupita Nyong’o, Eric played by Joseph Quinn, and Henri played by Djimon Hounou. The mystery of Henri is that we actually meet him in A Quiet Place: Part Two, on the island. So, I would only assume that by the end of the movie we see how he ends up there. Something else that’s different in the new movie is that it takes place in New York City.

That’s really what I can’t wait for. The bustling city of New York is the worst place to have this alien invasion, and it’ll be so cool and suspenseful watching this crew of people survive the invasion. A Quiet Place: Day One comes out June 28, 2024.

9.) IF

Speaking of John Krasinski, we have his new movie IF. IF is short for imaginary friends, which they have been abandoned by their owners. That’s where Ryan Reynolds’s character comes in, with Cailey Fleming joining him. It is their goal to then find these imaginary friends a new home. This feels like it is going to become a cult classic among viewers, and will be adored by many. People have been complaining that there isn’t enough new IP anyways, so here you go. This movie also has an absolute stacked cast, like Steve Carell, Keegan-Michael Key, Bradley Cooper, Sam Rockwell, George Clooney, Maya Rudolph, and more. IF comes out May 17, 2024

8.) Borderlands

STEP ASIDE B1TCHES! Judging only off of the trailer, this movie looks like it’s going to be a classic good time at the movies. This is very much Eli Roth’s Guardians of the Galaxy. My expectations aren’t even all that high. I’m just going into here looking for a fun time. I even think that this might become one of those cult classics. However, the cast here is about to carry the film. Jack Black is the king of video game movies, he’s a phenomenal voice actor. You have Kevin Hart, Ariana Greenblatt, Cate Blanchett, Jamie Lee Curtis, and more. Borderlands comes out August 9, 2024.

7.) Alien: Romulus

I am judging my excitement just off of the one teaser that we’ve gotten. Watching this really did not show much, but it gave me chills. We already know that all the xenomorphs, and facehuggers are going to be practical. Alien day was actually just the other day, and with that came the announcement of a new Alien game. Along with that, we got a behind the scenes look at one of the facehugger animatronics. This is only going to make the movie feel more real, which is only going to make it more scary.

6.) Twisters

Lots of people, including me have speculated that Glen Powell will become one of the next mega stars of Hollywood. After the success of Anyone But You, he is appearing in the legacy sequel, Twisters. The movie takes the plot of the original Twister, but an up to date version. This seems like a dumb fun blockbuster, featuring tornado chasers, and bunches of tornado drones. I’m not going into here with the expectation of the best movie ever, but a fun time at the theaters. Twisters comes out July 19, 2024.

5.) Inside Out 2

We follow back with our emotions. Returning is, Amy Poehler as Joy, Phyllis Smith as Sadness, and Lewis Black is Anger. I am sad to say that Bill Hader and Mindy Kaling as Fear and Disgust are being replaced by Tony Hale and Liza Lapira. We see the return of Riley, but this time she’s 13. Therefore, we see her puberty kick in, and the introduction of new emotions. Maya Hawke as Anxiety, Ayo Edebiri as Envy, Adèle Exarchopoulos as Ennui (Boredom), and Paul Walter Hauser as Embarrassment.

I just can’t wait to jump back into this world, the plot of a sequel has been lying right there from the start. So, I think it’ll be very difficult to mess this movie up. I think this might even be better than the original, I think it’ll hit closer to home, because a major part of the audience has either been through puberty already, or is going through it right now. Inside out 2 comes out June 14, 2024.

4.) Trap

M. Night Shyamalan is back at it again with his new thriller, Trap. The movie follows this dad and his daughter at this mega pop star concert. Lady Raven is a fictional pop star, played by Shyamalan’s daughter. Not director of Watchers, Ishana, but his daughter Saleka. The stadium is then under lock down, for the killer, The Butcher, is in attendance at the concert. It is then revealed that the dad is the killer, and he has to stay clear of the police. If they reveal a twist like that in the trailer, then I’m going to be on the edge of my seat waiting for an even bigger twist in the film. This is turning out to be a fun, suspenseful film. Trap comes out August 9, 2024.

3.) The Fall Guy

The Fall Guy features Ryan Gosling as a stunt man, and Emily Blunt as a film director. This is a love letter to stunt work, director, David Leitch, was even a stunt director before he got into film making. Ryan Gosling’s stunt man character is off on the hunt for the main star of his movie, because he has gone missing. This movie also features a sub plot, which follows the romantic side between Gosling and Blunt. This looks like it’s going to carry on laughs, action, fun times, and emotion. That is literally all I have ever asked for when going to the movies.

2.) Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes

WHAT A WONDERFUL DAY! Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes takes place 300 years in the future, after the Matt Reeves films. Caesar has left an impact, and has basically become Jesus to these apes. We follow this ape called Noa out seeking revenge against this other clan of apes who have attacked his village. This movie features apes of all types, that are just so friggin cool! Proximus Caesar (Antagonist) has had such a presence in these trailers, and I’m just in awe whenever I hear these apes speak. We have gone so far, from Caesar barely saying his first word, to all of these apes making full sentences.

1.) Deadpool & Wolverine

The number one spot then goes to, Deadpool & Wolverine! These trailers have done an amazing job on making me excited for this release. From what I took away from the trailer, Wolverine is in some dark times, and that’s when Deadpool comes into the picture. Deadpool then tries to persuade Logan to help him save his universe from dying. I think what I would appreciate from this movie the most is the classic comical delivery of Deadpool, and the hilarious jokes he makes. Through that, Deadpool will step up and become more of a friend to Wolverine. That there will cover the emotional side of the movie. My hype for this movie is going to grow more and more as Ryan Reynolds’s brilliant marketing starts to ramp up. Make sure you check out my breakdown of the recent trailer.

That is going to wrap it up for my list of my most anticipated movies of summer 2024. A common theme that I took from this list is that this summer is going to be filled with fun times at the theater. These might not be the best movies, but at the end of the day, it only matters if you have a good time. Make sure you check out The Big Stinker Blog for more coverage on movies, TV shows, and video games. So, until next time stinkers! Bye bye.
