Welcome back stinkers! It is finally time I give you my breakdown and review of Skeleton Crew Episode 3! How good is this episode? Does this show really keep getting better and better? WHAT IS THE MYSTERY OF AT ATIN? If you want to find out, keep reading until the end.

Skeleton Crew Episode 3 Review

So, we left off the last episode with Captain Jod Na Nawood, coming upon these kids. They then spend the opening sequence escaping the ship port. I mean just this sequence alone, throwing Jude Law into the mix has already made this show even better. The chemistry between him and the kids is just perfect! Like OMG feed Neel!! This episode was by far my favorite, and it got me excited to see if the show could push through all the way to the end. I really consider it the appetizer for what the rest of the show might just provide us. Because now, we’ve pretty much unlocked all of our main characters. They took the time to show us how the kids’ dynamics worked in the first two, now we’re able to see how the kids work with Jude Law.

Parents in Worry

Skeleton Crew Is The First Star Wars Story With Good Parents

We start the episode with a rather empty At Atin. All of the kids’ parents get together worrying about them. The safety droid comes in and tells the parents what has happened. I might be reading too much into this, but he says that the star ship left illegally. Was it even legal to begin with? Did they know about the ship? Did it crash onto At Atin? I think those are the questions we should be asking.

Who is Jod Na Nawood

We then enter the lower levels of the port, as Nawood leads the kids to safety. Now this episode does make clear, earlier than expected, that Jod Na Nawood is only posing as a jedi. That’s another question we should be asking? How does Nawood pull off, using the force? Is he force sensitive? Or is it just some sort of pirate trick? A popular theory that I’ve seen is that maybe Nawood was a Jedi youngling but quit shortly after certain circumstances.

Droid Storage

Skeleton Crew's Nod to the Star Wars Prequels Is as Hilarious as It Is Heartbreaking

Now one of my favorite references has to be in this droid storage section of the port. Nawood wakes up a Breach Droid, then a protocol droid, just like C-3PO, then a battle droid from the prequel trilogy. And then he finally lands on SM33. Now what got me jumping up and down, was when Nawood’s old crew member, Benjar Pranic, arrives on the scene. Pranic is an Ishi Tib male, but more importantly, he’s played by Alfred Molina. Pranic then threatens Nawood by reporting him to Captain Brutus. He must’ve taken up the Captain Mantle, once Nawood was overthrown.

A really cool BTS detail that I’ve just recently learned was the fact that SM33 was puppeteered, and there was a guy behind him moving the whole time. The same kind of goes with Neel. Similar to how they controlled Grogu in that sense.

Star Wars Currency

Again, there’s been an emphasis on money in this show so far. In the first episode, they were learning about different currencies, the second episode showed pirates in pursuit of their currency, and now in episode 3, I think the kids are starting to piece some things together. They all realise that their parents are analysts, and they don’t really know what they’re analysing. I think that’s something that the writers have sprinkled in every so often, in order for it to stick in the back of our heads. So, whenever they reveal this money-based mystery, it can BLOW. OUR. MINDS.

Moon Landing

Star Wars Skeleton Crew' Episode 3 Recap - I'll Meet You on the Dark Side of the Moon

The crew then land on the moon of Nawood’s owl friend, and I just love everything from this point forward. The cinematography is surprisingly good, and I just love the shots we get. Nawood then explains to the kids that he doesn’t necessarily trust his friend, and that she might stab them in the back. Neel and the rest of them quite literally think that she’ll stab them. Although I found it to be very funny, it also has me concerned for these kids. First, Neel didn’t even have a clue what a star is, and now they’re not even getting common metaphors. So, whatever this At Atin is, I think that they’ve been hiding some “imperfect” stuff from this world. That’s how these kids are missing such common knowledge.

Kh’ymm

Star Wars Skeleton Crew' Is Setting This Character Up To Be Devastated

We then meet this owl astronomer, Kh’ymm, played by Alia Shawkat. And we actually learn a lot because of her. Kh’ymm explains to Wim and the rest of the crew that their home has been purposely hidden from the rest of the galaxy. Dating back to the old republic, these “jewels” of planets were all destroyed, except for At Atin. It has only lived on to be told in folklore. Yet, another question. What was the purpose of these planets? Why were they destroyed? What I’m bagging on right now is that these planets might be different tests to create different societies.

Crismon Jack

Who Is Crimson Jack? The Meaning Behind 'Skeleton Crew's Deep Cut Star Wars Comics Reference

Welp, Kh’ymm has ratted CRIMSON Jack out, and the gang escapes back to the ship. Now I just love the quick banter between Jod and the kids, it really shows the chemistry that Jude Law has with these kids. Now something that I don’t think a lot of people have really talked about is what Nawood mentions when they’re taking off. “Rely on a droid, they’ll let you down every time.” As of now, we are half way through the show.

My breakdown of episode 4 will come out shortly. In the second half of the show, we are obviously going to see more of where Crimson Jack came from. Maybe a factor of what got him slumped in the dirt, is the fact that some close droid of his stabbed Jack in the back. Maybe, this droid of his fooled him, and said that this ship would be loaded with treasure, but he didn’t come out so good. That’s what we see in the opening of the series. That’s at least my theory.

Kids Gain Control

Jack then gives the kids full control of the ship, and it works out in their favor. It has actually made me think of a potential character arc that Crimson jack could be going on. In episode 2, he finds these kids and takes advantage of them for his own self need. So, maybe as we move further into the show, we can see that flip a bit, and these kids become more of a superpower used for the better, not the other way around.
