Welcome back stinkers! I know I’ve been slow on my Star Wars game recently. I still have to give you my review of The Acolyte, which I still have to finish watching. I’m just going to tell you, it’s not all that positive. D23 of course was just about a week ago, and with that we got trailer for Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars. Well, we’re starting our D23 trailer run with the recent Skeleton Crew Teaser! I would also like to apologize for being a bit late, D23 and other work-related things have got me swamped. I promise you; I will get you as many trailer breakdowns as I can give.

Skeleton Crew Teaser Thoughts

Now I actually think this Skelton Crew teaser was a great first look at the series. There’s no doubt that Star Wars has been putting out (to be kind) mediocre projects, but there has still been some great shows and successes. There’re things like Mandalorian Season 1 and 2, Andor, and I really liked Obi-Wan. Now it’s way too soon to tell, but I think that this show could be in that better bunch of shows. I definitely agree that it looks like Star Wars meets The Goonies. I’ve been going back and forth on this sub urbs in Star Wars idea.

One of the biggest complaints about Star Wars is that it has all be stuck in one time period in one galaxy. I don’t know if it’s the time for a grounded sub urbs idea, when we can’t explore the vast galaxy. Now the other thing is that they aren’t necessarily staying in that area. As long as Star Wars doesn’t screw up and keep them there for multiple episodes, then it’s going to be a fun time when they leave their home and explore unknown places. This show is being created by Jon Watts, the director of the MCU Spider-Man trilogy. That is where a good chunk of my hope is coming from. Jon Watts is a great director, and I think he might deliver on a great project.

Skeleton Crew Teaser Analysis

Star Wars in the Sub Urbs

Now that I’ve thought about it a bit, I think that sub urbs in Star Wars isn’t a big deal whatsoever. We’ve had cities and apartment buildings. Why not have an area that’s in between? Our main character is Wim, played by Ravi Cabot-Conyers. We see him meet up with his friend, Neel, ride the bus to school.

Tomorrow’s Test

Now I do want to mention what this teacher says. “Tomorrow’s test will set the course of your entire future.” This helps my theorize and guess on how this show might be structured. I think that we are going to start the series off with Wim and Neel going to school and sitting in class while this teacher is talking about the test that’s the next day. I think that Wim and Neel will go home afterwards, and that’s when we see Wim approach Neel about an adventure. Prior to the school day, in the beginning of the episode we could see a sign of Wim’s craving of adventure. After school Wim invites Neel and the gang over to his house. I think the episode will then end with them being whisked away on the ship that they find.

One of the shots we get in the trailer is this wide shot of a giant classroom. One of the seats actually has someone missing. I don’t think this is at the beginning of the show, I think that it’s near the end. I think that we are going to learn that the events of this show take place in one day, and we are going to see Wim and Neel barely make it to when testing starts. You might be able to call me crazy, but with this Goonies type theme, I just think that can fit into the style of the show very much.

Whisked Away. Lost in Space.

We then see the kids just whisked away. As the newfound “abandoned” ships hits hyperdrive, it lands them near a big hub within a giant floating rock. I think that it is pretty clear that is where they find themselves at first, and I think that’s where we can see them put into that jail cell. I also think that we could see that sequence of them going through some sort of market of sorts. Where we see Jawas and other creatures. “Tis, dangerous out there in space.” Doesn’t that sound like a pirate? If my memory serves me well, at D23 there was a photo opportunity where, you could pose with the pirates seen in The Mandalorian Season 3, with the Skeleton Crew marketing. I think they could capture the kids, and that’s when they have their run in with Jude Law.

Jod Na Nawood

We then get our first look at Jude Law’s Jedi character, Jod Na Nawood. Now this a scene that really reminds me of the Pirates of the Carribean scene where the dog as the keys to the cell. I don’t know why. Anyways, Nawood is one of the stars of the show, and he is the leading light for these kids. This Jedi is a hero to these kids, especially Wim. Now from watching the New Rock Stars video, they actually made a pretty interesting theory, that Nawood could be some sort of fake. That he can be a character that doesn’t seems who he really is, and that twist is revealed later in the show. That could be a plot device that not only breaks the kids’ hearts but could also break the hearts of the viewers. It would have to be done right of course.

Speaking on this specific scene. Knowing Disney Star Wars, I think they would end whatever episode off with this clip. It would be a tease for the next episode. Depending on when the show comes out, this could be done pretty good, or it could just leave a bad taste in the viewers’ mouths. There was some first look photos a while back that showed Nawood and the kids looking up at the opening of a ship. I think that ship is Nawood’s and he is going to try to get them home, but they’re going to end up at that snowy place, with the ship and all the fire and such.

The Goonies

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Trailer Brings An Amblin Feel To The Galaxy Far, Far Away

Now, there’s no doubt that this show has that Goonies vibe. I’m going to have to do a refresher on the movie myself, but I can still see a lot of the inspiration That’s the most exciting thing for me. If done right, it can be a heartfelt story, that could have that emotional touch to it. Knowing Jon Watts, I think he’s the man to do it.

Skeleton Crew Teaser Wrap Up

That is going to it for my small Skeleton Crew Teaser analysis. I know it was very short and I apologize. There are lots more D23 trailer to talk about, plus other stuff that I’m having to do behind the scenes. Whenever they release a longer official trailer, you can expect a longer breakdown, especially if there’s not a lot surrounding it.
