No doubt that Godzilla X Kong the New Empire is a success. Within the first weekend the movie already made its budget plus more. During the launch of the movie, director Adam Wingard has been doing interviews to promote the film. In one of those interviews he says, “If I were going to do another one of these films, I would want to hit the kind of emotional resonance with Godzilla as a character this time.” I can almost say with confidence that another Godzilla x Kong movie will be greenlit. If Wingard wants to capture the emotion from the original Godzilla V.S. Destroyah, I wouldn’t rush into it just yet.
A movie where Destroyah would be the main villain would be sick! But, I don’t think it should be the next movie. The Monster-Verse has been the most successful connected universe, behind Marvel. A Godzilla V.S. Destroyah movie would be an epic endgame style movie. And I think to increase the longevity of the universe, I think you do a couple of more films before Destroyah. Maybe another Godzilla movie to finish off the trilogy, and two more Kong movies to finish that trilogy. Another season or two of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters would also be nice, and I bet would please a lot of fans. When rewatching Godzilla V.S. Kong, I got the idea for another TV show they could do. In the movie they introduce a new organization called Apex. I think it would be pretty cool and interesting if they turn that into a TV show, similar to how they used the organization Monarch in a show.
Going back to what Wingard said, if he wants to capture the emotion of Godzilla from that original movie, then I think some more time with him would benefit that emotion even more. In Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire, Kong finds baby kong, Suko, and he is soon led to a whole population of Kongs, Kongs that were originally thought to be extinct. In Godzilla V.S. Destroyah Godzilla finds himself a baby Godzilla. In the Monster-Verse, Godzilla as of now, is the only one of his kind. If Wingard applies what he said he wants to do, then I think we can see a side of Godzilla that we’ve never seen before.
Where could they go with Destroyah? This finale could bring all of the monsters together in one big fight against Destroyah. Legendary has already teased it a bit with the bomb from Godzilla: King of the Monsters. If they start teasing it more and more, with more movies and shows to come, then all it will do is benefit the hype for the endgame level movie. They should include even more monsters in this one too. I think Mothra could play a great part in the movie, an idea for a small sub plot of the movie is that they could try and find a way to bring back Ghidora to help them in the fight against Destroyah. I would only assume that you would need every titan on deck.
