Welcome back stinkers! Recently Paramount had their presentation at CinemaCon, and they blew expectations. Well, one of those that they featured was a Transformers X G.I. Joe film. Today I will breakdown this announcement even deeper and elaborate on more of my thoughts that I gave in my Paramount recap.

Transformers X G.I. Joe in Development

Transformers One' Trailer, 3D Footage Shown At CinemaCon

At CinemaCon, Paramount featured a good chunk of Transformers at their presentation. They showed off a bit of their upcoming animated movie, Transformers One. The trailer comes out online on Thursday. Paramount announced two films that we haven’t heard about. TMNT: The Last Ronin, and our main one of the day, Transformers X G.I. Joe. The only other piece of information we have gotten was that Steven Spielberg is going to be an executive producer. Spielberg has been producing these Transformers movies since the first Bay directed one in 2007.

Transformers isa franchise that has had a really bumpy start. While the Michael Bay movies have made a butt load of money, they didn’t do very well critically. It was then when Paramount came back with a reboot, starting with Bumblebee. The Bumblebee movie was able to get fans back into the loop of Transformers and get other people on board. After Bumblebee, came 2023’s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. I understand it didn’t really resonate well with fans, but I would have to say that it is better than most of the Bay movies. The only problem the movie faced was that it didn’t do all that well in the box office. I would have to give it to Transformers for doing better than Joe, while being in the rehabilitation process.

Transformers' Upcoming GI Joe Crossover Explained by Producer

At the end of Transformers: Rise of the Beats, we got the tease of G.I. Joe. The main character of the movie, Noah, got the job offer to join the famous group, G.I. Joe. What I didn’t expect is for us to go straight to a crossover film (live action) between the two franchises. This upcoming feature is going to be able to capture the magic of putting our toys from the toybox, clashing together. You can definitely expect Transformers like, Optimus Prime, and Bumblebee in here. Those two are your recognizable moneymakers. For where the story could actually go, I don’t know. G.I. Joe is filled with humans (or non-autobots) and as of the time, Optimus is still growing to the fact of working with humans. Having to work with the G.I. Joe is going to be beneficial to Optimus Prime’s character growth.

Now, G.I. Joe hasn’t been doing all that well whatsoever. The last impression from the G.I. Joe franchise was the 2021 movie, Snake Eyes. That movie left a terrible left a terrible impression on fans, at least to the fans that actually watched it. Yes, the movie had the misfortune of being release during the pandemic, but the box office total was a whopping $40.1 million. Although the other G.I. Joe films did better than Snake Eyes, they are still not all that liked among fans. It is safe to say that G.I. Joe is in more of a rough spot, then Transformers ever was.

Predict this weekend's box office: Will 'Snake Eyes' or 'Old' win? - GoldDerby

This will be the introduction of the G.I. Joe in this new Transformers universe. A struggle I can see them facing is that Transformers are already more adapted into this universe, and we’re already being thrusted into things with G.I. Joe. If the new crossover does end up working out, then I think you could breakdown the G.I. Joe parts in the movie and spin them off into their own thing. Worst case scenario is that this will the Transformers’ world and the G.I. Joe is just living in it. What I am going to tell you is that you can probably expect more of the recognizable G.I. Joes to show up in here, like Snake Eyes. I don’t think they’re going to give Snake Eyes a movie any time soon.
