Welcome back stinkers! I am back with my first movie review of 2025, Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl. Now I will preface my review with this, I have never seen the original. I had little to no previous knowledge when watching this film.
The Good
Starting off with the good, it was a fun film. At the end of the day, I enjoyed my time with the movie. Speaking of the characters, this is my first introduction to them. Yes, I’ve heard of Wallace and Gromit, but I have yet to meet them. I think it was the simple premise of the story that got me. Wallace is obsessed with his technology and inventions, while all Gromit wants Wallace to focus on more of the better things. More so doing things on his own, without depending on his inventions. It really provided a sweet touch to the film, there were definitely some stand out moments in here.
Each character gets a moment of redemption, and that was where my enjoyment of the film came from. More specifically, Wallace and Gromit, but there’s also Normbot, and the cops. You also can’t forget about Feathers Mcgraw! I really thought he was the poster child of how creative these movies get. Now for a minute I will be talking about some spoilers that happen during the third act of the film. So, if you want to remain spoiler free, fast forward to where the spoiler signal is off the screen.
The Best (Spoilers)
So, what brought the film from ok to good for me is the third act. There’s not only more action on screen, but it also makes the rest of the film worth it. I would be lying if I didn’t say I teared up close to the end. At a peak moment of the action, it looks like Gromit is about to bite the dust, and Wallace is on the edge, and he can’t do anything. Throughout the film I was angrier at Wallace for almost replacing Gromit with Normbot. This moment didn’t only bring that anger out of me, but it made me more sympathetic to Wallace. Gromit is really the only thing Wallace has, and he was about to lose his best pal. In which I got a little bit teary eyed. It didn’t only redeem the Wallace character for me, but also Normbot. I disliked the Normbots even more than Wallace. I found them so annoying! But it was a real sweet ending to the character, saving Gromit from falling.
The Bad
Moving on to some of my negative thoughts on the film. The thing that’s holding it the furthest back is the pacing. I thought it moved quite slow. Yeah, it would get my attention every other scene or two. But in the middle of all of that, I was bored. In the middle of all of that, it had me worried that this will turn into yet another bland, Netflix original. Again, I liked it at the end of the day. The film was turned around for me. It is a dime a dozen good Netflix movies.
Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl Review
My conclusion on this film is that it got me curious about the first one. Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl was a creative, yet sweet movie. So, I would recommend it to you, but I will preface my recommendation with the fact for a 1hr and 20 runtime, I thought it moved quite slow.
And that is going to do it for my first film review of 2025! Thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to read yet another one of my reviews, listening to my crazy opinions.
